Difference Between Pet and PVC in Plastic Packaging Industry

At present, consumers pay more and more attention to beverage safety. PET plastic packaging bottle is safe, while PVC has security risks. According to the research, not only the plastic bottle itself, if the outer packaging uses PVC, it may contain plasticizer, so as to penetrate into the beverage.
The products showed “PET” is hard to find .

In China, almost all carbonated drinks, milk tea, mineral water and Lactobacillus drinks are packaged with plastic products.
Most beverage bottles have a triangle with a “1″ or “2″ number printed on the bottom and English letters written around it. The number “1″ stands for “polyethylene terephthalate”, the English letter is “pet”, the number “2″ stands for HDPE, and the English word is “HDPE”. These plastic signs are mainly for recycling. If you know how to use them, consumers can know what materials the plastic products are made of through this sign, and you can use them at ease.

According to the requirements of “GB / t18455-2010 packaging recycling label”: plastic packaging bottles and packages with a volume of more than 100ml must be printed or engraved in the plastic packaging materials with the recycling symbol of the plastic type indicated in the intuitive appearance. In addition, according to (gb-t16288-2008) – marking of plastic products, it is pointed out that the full name of this marking on drinks should be “including the marking of recycled plastic products”. The logo is generally black, or other eye-catching colors, which are not easy to fade or fall off. The color of the logo of the molded products can be the same as that of the products. The national standard also says that each product is generally one, and the location of the mark shall be in accordance with the provisions of the product standard. Generally, it shall be located in the obvious place of plastic products.

PVC is not suitable for beverage packaging
The above national standard (GB-t16288-2008) also points out that plastic products that are inconvenient or unable to be identified can be identified on their outer packaging.
Most of the beverage packaging bottles on the market are made of “pet”, “HDPE” or “PP” materials. Such recycling marks can be found at the bottom of the bottles. Generally speaking, beverage products will be packaged with the above-mentioned plastics, but except PP materials, all plastic products cannot be heated or filled with high-temperature materials, otherwise harmful substances will be released and can not be reused.

PVC is generally used for building materials, plastic films, raincoats and other materials. Although it is resistant to high temperature of 81 ℃, it contains more plasticizing dose (also known as “plasticizer”) than general plastics. If plasticizer encounters high temperature or grease, the two will merge. It is likely that plasticizers in PVC materials will migrate to beverages. PVC should not be used as the outer packaging of beverage and oil products.
